I got my start in the electronics industry right after high school as a car audio installer. While attending college, I continued to work at a car stereo store, and during my last two years I worked for a high end home car audio store. It was 1991, when I got my first exposure to home integration/automation. A couple of years after college, I opened a custom car audio retail store in Virginia. This is where I got my first taste of the logistics of running a small business. After a couple of years, I left the business and went to southern California to run a car audio store. While I am happy I got to experience the SoCal weather, the overall atmosphere did not appeal to me, so I headed to Jackson Hole in 1998 to work for the only car stereo store in town. After a couple of months, I realized Jackson was in need of a “real” car stereo and accessory store, and opened my second business in 1998, called Street Sounds. I remember working seven days a week to make ends meet, all the while living in the shop. By the mid 2000’s, Street Sounds was a successful retail operation with a handful of employees. After constant requests from clients to wire their homes, and the reality of new cars being equipped with better and better car stereos, I saw the need to branch out into the custom home integration market, and officially opened Home Sounds in 2003. After a couple of years, I was so busy working on houses, I was unable to put the time into Street Sounds that my client base had become used to, so I sold Street Sounds and opened Audio Video Specialists (AVS), and bought my first retail space on Deer Drive. Fast forward to today, and AVS is eight team members strong, and offers the Jackson Hole area a locally owned and operated custom home integration operation with sales, installation and most important, SERVICE.

My interest in audio and electronics started around 1988. My last year of High School I was working odd jobs for family and friends doing electrical work and at the same time experimenting with building speaker cabinets. The early days of “Pro Logic” surround encoded on VHS tapes also held my interest. In 1991 during college I started a car audio business and worked out of my parent’s garage. My friends and I all wanted nice audio systems in our cars but never could afford really good equipment so that solved the problem. In 1995 I moved to Jackson WY and was somewhat “out of the business” for a few years until taking a job with the only car audio shop in the area. At this point we were all interested in building competition audio systems and had a lot of fun and success. The world of custom nicely transferred over to home electronics which became the focus around 2006 for me. Now in a mostly a project management position, I still dive in during crunch time and whenever something requires re-engineering. Specializing in just “making it work” when necessary, I would say I’m a veritable MacGyver when everyone else is afraid to tackle something and runs off. Just ask the crew.

I grew up in Jackson & have been a local since the mid-90’s. Whether it was building my own computers or helping out all my neighbors, friends & relatives with their gadgets, I’ve always had an aptitude for all types of electronics. That combined with my love for many different kinds of music & movies makes my job at AVS a natural fit. I’ve been working with the company for over 4 years & have added a lot to my technical expertise in that time. I enjoy applying my background in IT & customer service to each job as I strive to exceed expectations. I also welcome the challenge of staying well-versed in the latest technologies in the A/V & custom integration field.
